The New Brunswick Writers Group

In my ongoing quest for new ways of self-expression, I came across this awful synonym for "noise": tintinnabulation.  I dare you to use it in prose or a poem without making it sound forced.

This little bit of news fell into my lap recently.  It might be a good opportunity for short fiction writers.  Ginny, I'm looking at you.

Here is a query letter I used to pitch an article idea to Relix Magazine. I have no idea how to write query letters. I'm not sure what is the most effective method of selling an idea to an editor, so I told the editor a story. I was hoping to show the editor what he would be getting if he hired me. I didn't get the job, but I was invited to "stay in touch, and pitch again".

This is a continuation of a previous blog post about resume writing.  This is what I came up with after some toil.  If you have any suggestions for improvement, please let me know.

I just started putting my writer's resume together so I can land some cushy writing gig with a national publication where I earn 6 figures for doing next to nothing.  I realized rather quickly that I have no idea how to put a writer's resume together.  My web developer's resume looks quite impressive, but I don't think the EIC for Rolling Stone will pay much heed.

I'm often amazed by the depths of geekiness to which I can sink when I get the feeling. In an attempt to boost my stunted vocabulary I've replaced my normal bathroom reading material -- Rolling Stone, Swank, Highlights for Kids -- with the American Heritage Dictionary.

The Unlimited Potential Theater Company (UPTCo), a project of VSA arts of New Jersey (VSA/NJ), is seeking poems, essays, short stories and plays by New Jersey residents eighteen years of age or over for its 15th annual Joyce Indik New Jersey Wordsmith Competition. The contest is open to all writers, and submissions by writers with disabilities are especially encouraged.
